As you know, the majority of today’s direct mail is printed on a plain coated stock. Yes, it’s arguably for cost reasons but maybe there’s a trick being missed. We would venture to suggest that a simple A4 piece of print printed four colour with raised ink for instance would generate far more response than the same piece printed on a plain coated stock. Yes, more expensive to print but a far higher RoI.
